Come gather, connect, and create with your local plant-loving community!
Join Artist and Textile Designer, Patricia Massie, for an introduction to Eco Printing (also known as Bundle dyeing,) where plant materials are arranged on fabric, rolled and wrapped tightly with string, then steamed to release plant color.
You will receive an introduction of process, materials and dye plants.
Together we will look at natural dyes made from a variety of local plants, flowers, bark & leaves and will discover their properties and some of the ways to apply/print them on fabric. Everyone will get to print 2 bandanas, one protein fiber/silk and one cellulose fiber/cotton. Leave with inspiration, knowledge, and recipes for working with natural dyes at home – including growing and tending plants in your own garden that will lend their generous color and beauty for many seasons to come.
Wear casual play clothing or bring an apron to protect clothing.
If you like, bring a small notebook to take notes. All other materials will be supplied.
SDBG follows local safety and health guidelines, and supports staff and visitors who choose to wear masks as they prefer.
Cost: Members $75, non-members $90. Class fees include Garden admission.
Class format: In-person, indoors and outdoors
Please register by June 9.
