Dear Friends of the Garden,
It is with great excitement that we announce the appointment of Adam Schwerner as the next President & CEO of the San Diego Botanic Garden, beginning June 15, 2026.
As only the third President & CEO in the Garden’s 55-year history, Adam’s appointment represents both a continuation of our strong legacy and the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the organization.
A respected leader with more than 30 years of experience in horticulture, design, operations, and storytelling, Adam joins us from Disney, where he currently serves as Director of Horticulture and Resort Enhancement at the Disneyland Resort. In this role, he oversees horticulture, landscape, facilities, and visual storytelling across Disneyland Park, Disney California Adventure, Downtown Disney, while also providing oversight of horticulture and holiday overlays at the Resort’s hotel—helping shape immersive environments experienced by millions of guests each year.
What stood out throughout the national search process was Adam’s unique ability to pair creativity and innovation with thoughtful stewardship and a deep appreciation for the role public gardens play in inspiring and connecting communities. His vision for the future aligns seamlessly with the Garden’s mission and aspirations for the years ahead.
We also want to express our heartfelt gratitude to Ari Novy for his extraordinary leadership and lasting contributions over the past eight years. Under Ari’s guidance, the Garden expanded in size, scope, and impact—strengthening science and conservation programs, growing reach in the community, and advancing our mission in meaningful and lasting ways. We are profoundly grateful for his dedication and lasting contributions.
As we look ahead, we are energized by the opportunities before us and grateful for the continued support of our members, donors, volunteers, staff, and broader community. Together, we look forward to an inspiring new chapter for the San Diego Botanic Garden.
With gratitude,
Randi Coopersmith
Board Chair
