January 2021

Challenges have the potential to bring out the best in us as we push beyond our limits and find creative, new solutions. This year has certainly given us plenty of opportunity to rise to the occasion! But if you’re dealing with the COVID blues, you’re not alone.

Feelings of anxiety, burnout, and being overwhelmed can leave you short on patience and low on resources. We’ve designed our weekly outdoor yoga classes here at the Garden specifically to help reduce these feelings.

While movement decreases stress, high intensity exercise can be draining for a frazzled nervous system. That’s why you might feel temporarily better after a workout, but you will still have lingering feelings of anxiety. Shifting to slower, intentional movement and deep breathing still offers a physical challenge but also balances your nervous system, leaving you calmer and more centered.

San Diego Botanic Garden hosts socially distanced Open Air Yoga every Saturday morning. Classes incorporate deep breathing exercises and yoga poses that encourage stability and grounding. Garden sights, scents, and sounds soothe your overworked nervous system, so you’ll go home refreshed and able to show up as your best self.

Make nature and yoga part of your weekly routine for a cumulative positive benefit. Please join us. In the meantime, check out our short videos of Movement and Breathing with Jenna and Breathing with Jenna.
