Ambassadors

Primarily located at the main entrance of the Garden, these volunteers are often among the first to greet and interact with guests when they enter. Ambassadors help with an array of duties, including assisting with directions, and helping to answer general questions about the Garden and programming. 

Welcome Ambassador

Functions
Greet visitors as they enter and exit the Garden. Answer general questions and give directions, point out our digital map, distribute any educational materials (i.e. scavenger huns), and advise on places to visit. Promote Garden membership and programming, and ensure visitors have the information they need to have an enjoyable experience. 

Knowledge or Training Required
Have general knowledge about the Garden and comfortable giving directions. General knowledge of Garden membership and programming is also preferred. 

Competencies
Enjoy offering exceptional customer service to our visitors; ability to work in a fast-paced environment; ability to direct and manage crowds, as needed.

Welcome Ambassador II

Functions
Greet visitors as they enter and exit the Garden and assist the Visitor Services team with entry management, Shop Sales, Membership, and Admissions. Answer general questions and give directions, distribute educational materials (i.e., scavenger hunts), and advise on places to visit as Welcome Ambassadors do.

Knowledge or Training Required
Training required to process pre-purchased or walk-in Admissions, Shop sales and Garden memberships. Utilize information provided by VS to stay up-to-date on current programming, and ensure visitors have the information they need to have an enjoyable experience.

Competencies
Ability to commit to a weekly 4-hour shift based on the Garden’s needs. Enjoy offering exceptional customer service to our visitors; ability to work in a fast-paced environment using technology where needed; ability to direct and manage crowds, as needed.

Conservatory Ambassador

Functions:
Greet visitors as they enter the Conservatory and engage visitors with information about the plant collection and Conservatory building. Answer general questions about the Garden and programming.

Knowledge or Training Required:
Have knowledge about the Garden, Conservatory plant collection and building. Comfortable giving directions. General knowledge of Garden membership and programming is also preferred. 

Competencies:
Enjoy offering exceptional customer service to our visitors; ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Garden Ambassador

Functions:
Provide directions and information about Garden history and plant collections. Provide visitor feedback to Garden Staff to continually improve the visitor experience. 

Knowledge or Training Required:
Have general knowledge about the plant collections and are comfortable giving directions.

Competencies:
Enjoy offering exceptional customer service to our visitors.

Garden Ambassador - Botanic Explorations

Functions:
Utilizing themed activities and biofacts, engage guests in learning conversations in different Garden spaces. Follow SDBG resource guides and activity instructions.

Knowledge or Training Required:
Interpretation training or discussion with Education Department required. Previous experience engaging with the public, desired but not required.

Competencies:
General knowledge of Garden plants, pathways and areas. Interest in working with guests of all ages. Materials and student management is learned with experience. Ability to facilitate activities, actively engage with learners of all ages, and follow learning objectives.
