Friday October 27, 2 – 3 p.m.

Join us each month as plant science and conservation efforts are presented by San Diego Botanic Garden’s staff, research associates, colleagues, and guest speakers. This month we will feature SDBG’s Director of Medicinal Plants Research, Dr. Ben Naman. For three weeks in July, Ben traveled to La Palma, one of the Canary Islands, by invitation to participate in a Global Sustainability Fellowship program with about 20 people from at least 14 countries. This transformative and intensive initiative from The Sustainability Lab included learning, designing, evaluating, and communicating a vision for conservation and development of La Palma that incorporated the guiding principles of true sustainability through stakeholder interviews, site visits, and network diagram analysis. Highlights from this trip will be presented along with some recent updates about the construction of our medicinal gardens and medicinal plant research program at SDBG.
