The holiday season is often filled to the brim with festive cheer, joyous celebrations and… stress. If you’re looking for ways to reset with healthy habits in 2024, look no further. Here are 5 ways to embrace nature at the Garden and transition from the hustle and bustle of the holidays into a peaceful new year.

Enjoy an early morning walk: Stroll along pathways in the morning (we open at 9 a.m.!), listen to the birds chirping, and beat the crowds to your favorite spots. Psst.. SDBG Members can join our Member Walking Group and stroll the Garden one hour before opening to the public. Learn more here!

Take a Wellness Class: With dozens of classes each month, there’s always something new to explore and learn. Delight the senses and discover the healing benefits of plants with our popular Folk Herbal Medicine class, or take one of our yoga classes to find mindfulness and enjoy your vinyasa with beautiful views. Find a list of upcoming classes here

Find Zen in the Bamboo Garden: The Bamboo Garden at SDBG is home to the largest living collection of bamboo in North America!  With over 100 different species and cultivars from around the world, get lost in the tranquility of these beautiful plants. Find a bench near the pond and take a moment to meditate.

Discover the Bliss of Birdwatching: Grab your binoculars and a guidebook to identify the various feathered visitors that make the Garden their home. With over 150 species spotted throughout the year, SDBG is a designated Birding Hotspot by the Cornell Ornithological Laboratory’s eBird online data repository. Whether you’re a birding enthusiast or just getting interested in birdwatching, we invite you to join one of our Bird Walks to get a glimpse at the diversity of species! Bird Walks are held on the first Monday of each month, free to Members and included with General Admission.

Try Journaling: Find a bench and a quiet spot to sit and reflect on the passing year, or create goals for a successful year ahead. Bring a journal and pen, and let your thoughts flow onto the pages. The Garden provides an inspiring backdrop for introspection and setting positive intentions for the upcoming year.

Wishing you and your loved ones a peaceful year ahead!
